She's Hitting the Bottle...

Avery turned five weeks old yesterday and had another visit with Dr. Moore. She has gained some weight in the last two weeks (from 7lbs 3oz to 7lbs 11oz), but it wasn't enough to satisfy the doc. Although he still thinks she looks pretty healthy (just scrawny), he wants us to try formula only for the next week and see if she can pack on some pounds.

She continues to make advancements despite her sluggish physical growth...she will watch our faces intently for long stretches of time, and react to changes in our expression (usually with widened eyes or furrowed eyebrows). She will follow Jeremy with her eyes when he leaves the room, and will sometimes lift her head to watch him go! She is becoming a pro at catching her pacifier when it starts to fall out of her mouth - and today I noticed her grab the pacifier with her hand and take it out of her mouth, while continuing to hold it in her hand. I think this was just the result of an accidental coordination of flailing about, but I was impressed! Here is our girl with her beloved pacifier, post bath time.
